This study analyzed 44 local media research in Jeju related research papers published in domestic academic journals from 1998 to 2013, meanwhile checking on research performance as well as the study tried to clarify the aim of future studies of Local media research in Jeju. To do this, existing local media research was used as a framework while the current state of published articles and the publishing progress of chief academic journals were looked over. The researched subjects, purpose and methods were also analyzed. Here are some primary results found in the study. Firstly, most of the published theses were found in the academic journal, <Study of Journalism Science>. Also, the number of researchers continuously expandedand led to an increase of published papers after Jeju National University founded the Masters degree in Journalism and Public Relations, in 2003 and the Doctorate degree, in 2009. Secondly, the most researched topic was basedon messages, and then in the following order, media organization, consumers, business, and policy. Looking further into the topics, messages or symbolism sent by the media was a highly analyzed research sub-topic. Thirdly, most studies investigated each of Jeju``s research properties in Journalism. Since there were so many technical researches geared towards explaining these properties, instead of attempting a variety of research, there was also a trend focusing more towards information analysis. Lastly, the subject of analysis on domestic scientific journal published thesis is local newspaper which has 21 research articles, and local TV research has only 9 research articles which is only half of local newspapers`` amount of research articles. To sum it up, analysis leaned towards single media approaches, such as local newspapers and local television channels. Fields of study were mainly about messages while methods used in the study were based on technical and analyzed information. Henceforth, in order for local media research in Jeju to establish a stable grasp in this field, it is necessary to expand in research along with having a multidimensional, methodological approach. By having a multidimensional approach, a variety of productive research can be proposed and put into action.
