표현주의 예술에 나타난 묵시록적 도시 풍경과 갈리치아 그로덱 전투 고찰 = The Battle of Gródek in Galicia and Apocalyptic Urban Landscapes in Expressionist Art and Literature

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the Battle of Gródek, which occurred in Galicia (now part of Ukraine) during the early 20th century, and its relationship to apocalyptic landscapes within expressionist art and literature. By focusing on the “Schlacht von Gródek”, this paper investigates how artists and writers depicted the scars of war, the psychological aftermath of violence, and the existential fate of both individuals and cities in the wake of conflict. The analysis centers on the intersection of these themes in the works of expressionists such as Georg Trakl, Jakob van Hoddis, Ludwig Meidner, and Karl Kraus etc., whose works engage with the collapse of civilizations in the context of wartime devastation.
This paper specifically analyzes Trakl's Grodek, Meidner's apocalyptic paintings, and van Hoddis’ Weltende, each of which reflects the psychological and societal fractures wrought by the First World War. Furthermore, this paper draws contemporary parallels between the wartime destruction of the 20th century and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, underscoring the continued relevance of these apocalyptic landscapes in understanding the fragility of modern civilization. By broader contextualzing Expressionism this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how artists and writers responded to the collapse of traditional societal structures and the rise of a new, often dystopian worldview.
