Industrial clusters consist of firms and their cooperation with public, semipublic, and private research and development institutions linked actively together and in close spatial proximity.
The purpose of this paper is to explore ways and means to strengthen the clustering of knowledge-based industry in Kyonggi province. This paper is divided into six sections. Section 2 provides an introduction to the learning region and regional clustering phenomenon. Section 3 examines the industrial competitiveness in Kyonggi province. Section 4 divides the regional clusters of Kyonggi province into 3types: Marshallian Industrial Districts(Venture Business), Hub and Spoke(large firms and related firms) and the Districts of Small and Medium Firms.
Section 5 divides the strategy of Kyonggi Province into 2 parts, i.e. functional intervention strategy and selective intervention strategy and suggests structuring regional innovation system through the establishment of knowledge-based industrial clustering center. In section 6, the paper concludes that either functional intervention strategy or selective intervention strategy, the final goal of industrial cluster strategy is to create continuously high innovation and value added.
