[중국어 음운론과 응용]의 수정 이론 = The Revised Theories of the Chuggugǒ ǔmunnon gwa ǔngyong [Mandarin Phonology and Its Application]

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper points out some theoretical problems of Eom’s (2012) Chuggugǒ ǔmunnon gwa ǔngyong, Mandarin phonology and its application. The problems include (1) the unclear status of vocalic coda in the syllabic structure, (2) the improper rule ordering of vowel changes, and (3) the disputable mechanism of retroflexion or R-suffixation. After thorough examinations and discussions, this paper proposes to resolve the above problems as follows:

a. The post-nucleus glide should be placed at the coda position not in approximants as j and w but in vowel symbols as i and u.
b. Those rules concerning the vowel assimilation are proposed to be presented in the order of onset, nucleus, and coda unless they are crucially ordered. The rules applicable to the wider range precede the opposite ones.
c. Those rules concerning retroflexion are proposed to be presented in the order of retroflexion, schwa insertion, and front sound deletion.

The revised theories will be adopted in the second edition of Eom’s book, which will appear in 2016.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 엄익상(2012)의 『중국어 음운론과 응용』 (제1판)의 이론적 문제점을 지적하고 그 해결 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 논문에서 주로 지적한 문제점은 (1) 모음류 말음의 음절구조에서의 지위, (2) 모음 변화 관련 규칙의 우선순위, (3) 운모 교설음화 기제의 불완전성 등 세 가지이다. 이 논문이 제시한 해결 방안은 다음과 같이 요약된다.

(가) 모음류 말음은 핵음이 아니라 말음 자리에 위치해야하며, 접근음 j 또는 w가 아니라 모음 i 또는 u로 표기한다.
(나) 모음동화와 관련된 규칙은 특별히 순서를 따로 정해야하는 경우를 제외하고 두음, 핵음, 말음과 관련된 규칙 순으로 적용한다. 동일 위치에서는 상대적으로 적용 범위가 넓은 규칙이 그 반대 규칙에 우선한다.
(다) 운미 교설음화와 관련된 규칙은, 교설음화, 슈와 삽입, 전설음 탈락 순으로 적용한다.

이러한 수정 사항은 2016년에 출판될 이 책의 제2판에서 반영될 예정이다.
