뇌신경과학을 통한 유아 무용/동작치료의 교육적 고찰 = Neuroscientific Perspective on Dance/Movement Therapy in Early Childhood

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 유아 무용/동작치료를 신경과학적 관점에서 고찰한 연구로, 움직임이 신체활동을 넘어 사회정서·인지 발달을 통합적으로 매개한다는 점에 주목한다. 내부수용감각, 뇌유래신경영양인자, 거울신경세포시스템 등 주요 신경학적 기제를 중심으로 DMT의 효과를 살펴보고, 이를 유아교육학적으로 재해석하였다. 첫째, 마리안 체이스와 블랑쉐 이반의 초기 임상적 실천을 통해 신체 중심의 관계적 경험을 기반으로 형성된 치료 접근의 차원에서 DMT의 효과를 살펴보았다. 둘째, 내부수용감각, 신경가소성, 거울신경세포시스템을 통한 움직임이 사회정서 및 인지 기능과 연결되는 메커니즘을 DMT의 통합적 신경기전으로 제시하였다. 셋째, 유아의 사회정서·인지 발달을 지원하는 DMT의 교육적 적용 방안은 발달·관계적 실제와 전인적·통합적 원리를 중심으로 도출되었다. 이러한 논의를 종합하여, DMT가 신체의 상호작용을 기반으로 체화된 신경과학적 개입임을 설명하였다.

This literature review examines Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) for young children from a neuroscientific perspective, focusing on movement as an embodied process that extends beyond physical activity to integratively mediate social-emotional and cognitive development. Centering on key neurological mechanisms including interoception, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and the mirror neuron system, this review synthesizes prior research on the effects of DMT and reinterprets these findings within the framework of early childhood education. It highlights three main areas. First, the effects of DMT are analyzed through early clinical practices developed by Marian Chace and Blanche Evan, emphasizing therapeutic approaches grounded in body-centered relational experiences. Second, at the neural level, an integrative neurobiological framework of DMT is proposed, illustrating how bodily movement connects to social-emotional and cognitive functions through interoception, neural plasticity, and the mirror neuron system. Third, educational applications of DMT that support young children’s social-emotional and cognitive development are identified in terms of developmental practices. Synthesizing these discussions, this literature review argues that DMT should be understood not merely as an artistic expressive activity, but as a neuroscientifically grounded and embodied intervention based on the dynamic interaction between body and mind.
