Chemical fingerprinting of the aliphatic hydrocarbons by GC/MS was performed to determine the source of the oil as well as weathering parameters compared to unweathered referenced crude oil for the purpose of characterize the fate of spilled oil in marine environment. Weathering processes have changed the chemical composition of this residual spilled oil remarkably showing the high incidence of natural weathering processes on the spilled crude oil 5∼10 months after the spillage.
