This study critically examines the ‘cognitive fragmentation’ in contemporary Korean Protestant worship and aims to develop a liturgical year-based Eucharist model as a practical alternative. This research utilizes Pierre Bourdieu’s ‘Habitus’ as a primary framework, integrated with M. Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and James K. A. Smith's liturgical anthropology.
The academic significance of this study lies in its organic integration of Bourdieu’s triad of ‘Field-Structure-Embodiment’ with the liturgical elements of ‘Liturgical Year-Lectionary-Eucharist.’ First, the Liturgical Year is redefined as a ‘Sacred Temporal Field’ where spiritual habitus is formed. Second, the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) is posited as the liturgical ‘Structure’ that regulates the believer’s perception. Third, the Eucharist is demonstrated as the process of ‘Embodiment’' through which the Word of God is inscribed into the body.
The developed ‘Seasonal Eucharist Worship Model’ integrates theological themes into Eucharistic prayers, ensuring that the ‘Audible Word’ is visualized through the ‘Visible Word.’ This provides a mechanism for congregants to bodily remember Christ and solidify truths into a bodily habitus.
The academic value of this research transcends traditional liturgical studies by specifically elucidating the mechanism of how worship effects ontological change (Habitus) through sociological and phenomenological analysis. Furthermore, it achieves the integration of theory and practice by presenting a concrete model applicable to the Korean Church. In conclusion, this study shifts the paradigm of faith formation to ‘practical embodiment,’ providing a vital renewal for the Korean Church to restore its public faith and communal identity.
