사회과에서 신매체의 활용 : 함의와 과제 = Using New Media in Social Studies Education:Implication and Tasks

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 사회 전반적인 정보화 추세에 대응하여 국가적 차원에서 교육정보화, 교단선진화가 적극적으로 추진되고, 사회과에서도 첨단 정보매체를 교수-학습에 활용하고자 하는 노력이 지속적으로 이루어지고 있다.
본 연구는 사회과에서 교육매체로서 신매체를 활용하는 경우에 이것이 갖는 여러 가지 의미, 사회과에서의 신매체 활용 추세, 그리고 신매체의 교육적 활용이 가질 수 있는 한계 및 문제점을 고찰한 후, 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 앞으로 사회과가 지향하여야 할 바를 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

Every human being acquires knowledge, skills and values and learns the rules of the society through education. Although various disciplines have their shares in educating a desirable citizen, social studies play the most important and distinctive role, for the purpose of social studies education is to cultivate cognitive ability about social phenomena with complicated structure and function and to bring up the democratic citizen capable to participate actively in various social affairs. Hence, social studies have critical responsibility for educating students to grasp new scientific technology and adapt to the cultural changes.
Recent developments in information technology pose great challenges for social studies, while offer opportunities to take advantage of possibly powerful technology for educational use.
This study purports to analyze the significance in applying new techonolgy to instructional learning, to describe the current status of technology use in social studies education, and to investigate possible pitfalls that the technology in education can bear. Based on the analyses, future directions for social studies are suggested.
