It has been believed that oncogenes play an important role in tumorigenesis, progression, clonality, diagnosis, distinction between benign and malignant, grades of malignancy, prognosis and gene therapy of neoplasmas. Abnormality of p53 gene has been well known in Li-Fraumeni syndrome in which osteosarcoma occurs together with breast cancer. It is also well known that osteosarcoma sometimes occurs in patients with retinoblastoma showing abnormality of RB gene. Therefore we have examined the role of p53 and RB genes in biological behavior of osteosarcoma by molecular biological technique.
