스포츠윤리의 이론적 기초 = Theoretical Foundations on Sport Ethics

Showing increasing interests in sport ethics, a large number of articles on doping, sportsmanship, gender discrimination, match fixing, and fair play have been published in the Journal of Korean Philosophic Society for Sport and Dance. Considering that the discussion on sport ethics just emerged recently in South Korea, these articles evince that the Korean sport philosophy academia is up to undertaking sport ethics as a new discipline. In contrast of the flooding publications on specific topics, however, there has been few metaphilosophical reflections on sport ethics per se; can sport ethics exist within sport philosophy as an independent field? what are some characteristics of sport ethics? are there methodological grounds that would cause sport ethics to remain as a separate discipline? An attempt to answer these questions, this paper, rather than discussing specific topics of sport ethics, analyzes sport ethics as such in order to provide a theoretical frame for the study of sport ethics. First, my paper examines the relationship between sport and ethics, the forms taken by normative judgments in sport, and what constitutes the object of ethical consideration in sport. Then I suggest for a theoretical frame the four theories of ethics―utilitarian ethics, deontological ethics, contractarian ethics, and virtue ethics. These theories, I believe, can provide guidelines to making decisions and behaving as one tries to solve ethical problems raised in fields of sport.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

스포츠윤리에 대한 관심 고조로 도핑, 스포츠맨십, 성차별, 승부조작, 페어플레이 등 특정 주제에 관한 학문적 연구는 상당한 진척을 보여 한국체육철학 학술지에 관련 논문이 상당 수 게재되고 있다. 국내에서 스포츠윤리에 대한 논의가 본격적으로 시작된 지 그렇게 오래되지 않은 현실을 감안하면 이러한 연구 성과는 한국체육철학계에 스포츠윤리의 학문적 작업을 감당할 만한 잠재적 역량이 풍부함을 보여주는 고무적인 일이다. 하지만 주제 연구에 비해, 스포츠윤리가 무엇인지, 즉 스포츠윤리의 목적과 대상은 무엇이고 이 대상을 어떤 방법으로 연구하는지, 스포츠윤리를 하나의 학문으로 성립시키는 방법론적 근거들은 있는지 등과 같은 스포츠윤리 자체에 관한 철학적 고찰은 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본고는 바로 이러한 문제의식에 따라 스포츠윤리가 다루고 있는 구체적인 주제는 논외로 하고 스포츠윤리 자체를 탐구의 대상으로 삼아 스포츠윤리가 무엇인지를 규명함으로써 스포츠윤리 연구의 이론적 토대를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 먼저 스포츠와 윤리의 관계는 무엇인지, 스포츠에서 제기되는 규범적 판단의 형태는 무엇인지, 그리고 학(學)으로서 스포츠윤리의 독자성과 탐구영역은 무엇인지에 대하여 고찰하였다. 끝으로 스포츠 윤리문제의 분석과 해결을 위한 최소한의 틀로서 공리주의, 의무론적 윤리, 계약론적 윤리, 덕 윤리를 제시하고 이러한 윤리이론들이 실제 스포츠 상황에서 직면하는 윤리적 문제의 해결을 위한 의사결정이나 행위의 지침을 제공할 수 있음을 주장하였다.
