This study aims to examine the implication of the theory of Froebel and Montessori through an analysis of the concepts of `play` and `work`. `Play` and `work` are concepts based upon the spontaneity of the child, and are smiliar in the way they are both a means of realizing a sense of self. But there are difference in the concrete objective and emphasis in that one seeks abstract knowledge while the other develops more concrete skills. `Play` and `Work` are concepts occasionally confused in the educational environment. The relationship of play and work is decided by the instructor`s approach in the classroom. Therefore, when teachers organize learning situations of kindergarten so as to play and work at the same time and find the significance of play in the work activities, Froebel`s play and Montessork`s work will contribute to develop children`s possibilities and to promote learning. When theachers understand the meaning of `play` and `work` and direct children correctly, he educational implication of Froebel`s gifts and Montessori`s materials can be realized.
