The utilization of lithium-ion battery(LIB) has been steadily rising, extending beyond small devices to encompass high-energy-density applications like energy storage systems and electric vehicles. Approaches to enhance the energy density of LIB involve enhancements in cathode active material, utilization of solid electrolytes, and introduction of silicon into the anode electrode. This study focuses on achieving high energy density by introducing anode-free structure in LIB. Nonetheless, anode-free LIB(AFLIB) cannot be employed due to the encountering similar issues as Li metal batteries. Typically, in Li metal batteries, the electrodeposition of lithium takes place unevenly throughout the cycling process, leading to the formation of dendrites, thereby posing challenges to both lifespan and safety. Due to these issues, this study directed its focus towards a carbon nanotube(CNT) film with high-conductivity and high-surface-area, employed as the current collector to attain a heightened energy density in AFLIB. The CNT film, synthesized using the direct spinning method, features a 3D porous structure that mitigates local current density during cycling, ensuring a uniform lithium ion flux. Furthermore, the lithium affinity of the CNT film was enhanced through a treatment involving lithium carbonate salts(LCNT film). Detailed analysis of the electrochemical performance of the LCNT film revealed that a half-cell exhibited a relatively low lithium nucleation overvoltage of 22.5 mV and dramatically reduced solid electrolyte interphase. Additionally, LCNT film demonstrated exceptional coulombic efficiency, reaching 99% over 70 cycles under conditions of 0.5 mA/cm² and 1.5 mAh/cm². Moreover, when integrated into a full-cell with a LiFePO4, LCNT film demonstrated outstanding performance, showcasing a high initial capacity of 156 mAh/g. The LCNT film current collector developed in this study showcases remarkable energy density and performance, positioning it as a promising candidate for utilization in next-generation energy storage devices.
