Recently, studies have been actively conducted that the control of support from organizations and leaders has a positive effect on the commitment of organizational members, but research on organizations and leaders in the sports field, especially badminton players, is generally insufficient.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of players' athletic commitment and perceived performance through the evaluation of the badminton players organizational and leaders' perception of support, and to identify group differences in organizational and leadership awareness and group differences in athletic commitment and perceived performance according to players' personal characteristics. Through such research, it is expected to provide an opportunity to improve the reliability of badminton players, organizations, and leaders, and to provide useful information for improving athletes' athletic and performance.
The research questions to achieve the purpose of this study are as follows.
First, will there be a difference in perceived organizational support, leader support, athletic commitment, and perceived performance according to demographic and social statistical characteristics?
Second, will the organization and leadership of the badminton players affect athletic commitment and perceived performance?
Third, will there be a mediating effect of athletic commitment between Won-sik, the organization and leader of the badminton players, and perceived performance?
Under the COVID-19 social distancing situation, the subjects of this study set male and female athletes participating in the 2020 national spring and autumn badminton league games and the 2021 national fall badminton championships as target groups, and then surveyed a total of 350 players using the convenience sampling method.
The survey tool of this study used a questionnaire to analyze the relationship and mediating effect between badminton players organization and leadership awareness, athletic commitment, and perceived performance. Specifically, the composition of the questionnaire consisted of a total of 32 questions, including 13 questions recognized by organizations and leaders, 8 questions for exercise commitment, 6 questions for perceived performance, and 5 questions for demographic and social characteristics of the survey subjects.
The data analysis of this study drew the following results using statistical analysis techniques based on research objectives using the SPSSWIN 23.0 program and the Amos 23.0 program.
Research Hypothesis I was partially adopted.
First, the perception of leader support according to gender was higher in men than in women, and organizational support perception, cognitive commitment, and perceived performance were not statistically significant. Second, the results of verifying differences in perceived performance of leader support, organizational support perception, behavioral commitment, and cognitive commitment by school level were not statistically significant.
Third, the perception of leader support according to overseas training was higher than that of the group without overseas training, the perception of organizational support was higher than that of the group without overseas training, and the group with behavioral commitment was higher than that of the group without overseas training, but cognitive commitment and perceived performance were not statistically significant. Fourth, in terms of perceived performance according to athletic experience, more than 11 years were higher than 10 years or less, and leader support perception, organizational support perception, and athletic commitment were not statistically significant. And fifth, more than three times were the highest in cognitive commitment according to the number of awards, and more than three times were higher than the group without a group. In addition, the group with more than three times was the highest in perceived performance, and the group with more than three times was higher than the group without it.
Research Hypothesis II was partially adopted.
Specifically, first, as a result of testing the impact of organizational and leadership awareness on behavioral commitment, it was found that organizational support perception and leader support perception affect behavioral commitment and cognitive commitment. Second, it was found that perceived organizational support and leader support had an effect on perceived performance. Third, behavioral commitment and cognitive commitment were found to affect perceived performance.
Research Hypothesis III was partially adopted.
Specifically, as a result of verifying the mediating effect of behavioral commitment between perceived organizational support and perceived performance, behavioral commitment and cognitive commitment mediated the effect of perceived organizational support on perceived performance.
