공자는 실패한 정치가인가?

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 공자가 노나라를 떠나 주유열국하는 과정에서 현실정치에 실패한 과정을 언급하 면서, 정치적 이상으로서 대동사회를 꿈꾸었던 것에 대해 다루고 있다. 공자는 여러 나라를 돌아 다니면서 당시의 제후들에게 자신의 정치적 이상을 펼치려고 노력하였으나 결국 실패로 돌아가 버렸다. 그러나 현실 정치의 벽이 비록 높다고는 하지만 공자는 정치가로서가 아니라 정치이념가로 서 대동의 이념을 꿈꾸고 있었다. 대동사회는 공적인 사회로서 모든 사람들을 공평하게 대우하 는 평등한 공화국가일 뿐만 아니라 심지어 홀아비와 과부, 고아나 불구자들 모두를 제대로 대접 하는 현대적 의미의 복지국가였다. 공자가 살았던 시기를 고려한다면 획기적인 발상이었다고 할 수 있다. 공자의 정치적 이상이 비록 현실정치에 부딪혀 실패한 정치가가 되고 말았지만 그가 구상한 대동의 이념은 현대의 어느 정치이론이나 국가이론의 경지를 뛰어넘는 것이었다. 이에 필자는 공자가 정치적으로는 현실의 벽을 초월해서 자신의 정치이론을 구상한 탁월한 정치이론가라고 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper deals with the process of Confucius' failure to real politics in the process of touring many countries leaving behind his home nation Lu, and the dream of a great society as a political ideal. Confucius traveled to various countries and tried to spread his political ideals to the governors at that time, but he eventually returned to failure. However, even though the wall of real politics is high, Confucius dreamed of the ideology of Dae-dong as a political ideology, not as a politician. Dae-dong society was not only an equitable republic that treats all people fairly as a public society, but also a welfare state in the modern sense that serves all widowers, widows, orphans and disabled men. Considering the period when Confucius lived, it was an epoch-making idea. Although Confucius' political ideology has become a politician who failed to face real politics, his ideology has surpassed any modern political theories or state theories. Therefore, I argue that Confucius is an excellent political idealist who conceived his political theory beyond the realm of real-politics.
