영국 University of Warwick의 지역성인대학생을 위한 시간제 학위와 2+2 학위 개발 사례 연구 = Widening Participation of Non-traditional Adults in Pre-1992 Universities : A Case Study of Development of Part-Time Degree Programme and 2+2 Degree Programme at the University of Warwick

The aim of the research is to describe, from the perspective of staff at the Department of Continuing Education(DCE) in the University of Warwick, the unique contexts of the institution for introducing Part-time undergraduate degree programme and 2+2 honours degree programme in 1987 and in 1991 respectively. The study also focuses on the ways in which the University developed the two programmes at the level of policy and practice. The intention was to highlight the process of institutional change and the character of Further Education(FE)/Higher Education(HE) partnerships at the University of Warwick at the initial development period, in particular, from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s. A case study approach was adopted in conjunction with documentation and semi-structured interviews in order to gain in-depth qualitative data from informants. In total, four DCE staff who engaged in the development of the Part-time and 2+2 degree programmes participated in the interviews. Findings from the research indicate that the development of those two degree programmes was made possible by the particular combination of an external factor education for adults in the UK from the mid 1980s. Key internal factors included (a) the University's beneficial link with its local communities(e.g. the University's land donated by the City of Coventry), which led the institution's commitment to local community and; (b) a group of people such as the senior leadership, the DEC staff and numbers of opinion leaders who were willing to commit themselves to widen the participation of non-traditional local adults within the university.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 영국 명문대 중의 하나인 워랙대학이 1987년도와 1991년도에 각각 시간제 학사학위와 2+2 학위를 도입하게 된 독특한 배경을 평생교육학과 교직원의 시각에서 살펴본 사례연구이다. 특히 비전통적인 배경의 성인학생들을 터부시하는 명문대에서 그 편견을 깨고 어떻게 기관 내 제도적인 변화를 이끌어 내었는지 그리고 2+2학사제를 운영하기 위해 워랙대학이 어떻게 지역 Further Education Colleges와 파트너쉽을 형성하고 유지해왔는 지가 본 연구의 주제이다. 2007년 3월부터 6월까지 네 명의 대학 실무자들과 여덟 번에 걸친 인터뷰와 문헌조사가 행해졌다.
연구 결과는 기관 외부적인 요소와 내부적인 요소의 결합으로 인하여 워랙대학에 지역 성인들을 위한 학귀 프로그램이 기존의 학사 학위 프로그램에 편입될 수 있었음을 보여준다. 또한 비전통적인 배경의 지역 성인들이 대학의 학위 프로그램에 참여할 수 있도록 마음먹은 대학의 최고 간부들과 평생교육학과 교직원들의 결연한 의지가 시간제 학위와 2+2 학위를 도입할 수 있는 길을 제시하였음을 보여준다.
