This paper presents a study of the elastic local buckling in steel H-columns at elevated temperatures. A computer program of buckling analysis is developed in order to model the properties of the steel H-column section at elevated temperatures, failure temperatures can be proposed. The buckling temperature is predicted for different boundary conditions. Degradation of steel properties with increasing temperature was assumed in accordance with EC3 Part1.2 recommendations. The factors under investigation include material property, local buckling coefficient and slenderness ratios of the flange and web. A method is proposed to deal with this change and a design example is given to demonstrate how to use the proposed method.
