연결망, 불평등, 위법행동 = 비도덕성을 생성하는 사회적 자본

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 수직적 사회질서와 밀도 높은 사회관계가 특징인 한국에서 사회적 연결망의 적극적 이용, 권위주의, 그리고 계층 불평등에서의 위치가 위법행동에 미치는 영향을 검토한다. 공식적인 규칙을 무시하고 비공식적인 사회적 관계와 이에 배태되는 은밀한 행위규칙을 중시하는 태도는 귀속적 연결망에도 존재하고, 법을 위반하는 행동에도 존재한다. 따라서 귀속적 연결망은 관계지향적인 위법행동을 강화시킬 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또한, 수직적 사회질서를 나타내는 권위주의나 계층지위는 공식적 규칙을 무시하거나 사회적 기술의 습득을 통해 위법행동으로 연결될 수 있다. 분석결과 귀속적 연결망 중 가장 흔한 동창에게 특혜를 주는 태도, 권위주의적 태도나 관리직 종사와 같은 권위주의 변수, 그리고 교육이나 소득과 같은 계층지위는 위법행동 중에서 대인적 행동인 뇌물증여를 강화하지만 비대인적 행동인 교통질서위반에는 영향을 미치지 않는다. 이런 결과는 한국에서 계층지위가 높은 사람들의 도덕성에 대해 비판적 접근을 요구한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper investigates the effect of ascriptive social network mobilization, authoritarianism, and inequality upon unlawful behaviors in Korea. The attitude that ignores formal law and rules, while treasuring informal social relation and covert behavioral rules embedded with the informal social relation, is the common factor both in ascriptive social network and bribery. This implies that ascriptive social network contributes to strengthening relation-oriented unlawful behaviors. Authoritarian attitudes, managerial job and higher social position are also conducive to bribery since they bring actors to despise formal rules and use social skills. A statistical analysis of survey data shows that mobilization of social network, authoritarianism, and higher social position are main factors towards bribery. On the other hand, these variables do not affect traffic rule violation which is neither relation-oriented nor authoritarianism-related. The results show social embeddedness of unlawful behavior. They also confirm the often-heard lamentation on immorality of the ruling class in Korea.
