      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      This thesis intends to research the meaning of the family from the feminist perspective in the context of post-modern society in Korea. The structure of this thesis is made by social analysis, theological reflection and pastoral suggestions.
      In chapter 2 this study reviews how the views about family have been changed with process of historical transition. It is examined in regard to three periods; Agriculture Society before industrialization, Modern Society industrialized and Post-Modern Society to proceed to information Society after industrialization. Nowadays the form of Korean family is dramatically changing. With an decrease of birthrate, an increase of the divorce rate and increasing number of the aged Korean family were strongly challenged.
      In chapter 3, it will be examined the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church suggests that the family is the most basic and primary community of human persons. The family is the starting point of all human relationships and constitutes the fundamental cell to form many structures for human life.
      But there are some tensions between the idealistic, theoretical image of the family and the realistic, experiential family life. Based on women's experiences, family lives seem to be more complicated and women resist against the patriarchal aspects of the family.
      Facing feminists' indications, it is necessary to examine whether Catholic Church criticizes the structural contradiction of sexual inequality and cultural factors fully. The reality of sexual discrimination will not be imporved and it is difficult to avoid the criticism that Catholic Church's teaching is patriarchal ideology when Church emphasizes the married couple's unity only ignoring inequitable structure. Church's teachings include sexual equality originally. God created man and woman as his appearance, gave equal characteristic dignity, and granted unalienable rights and responsibilities to human beings. Nevertheless, church has limited woman's role to special field of family, such as role as wife and mother, and has kept woman at a distance from public field one the basis of social cultural views. Therefore, it needs to bravely amend inequitable usual practice rooted in church awaking these points. Future's family is regraded that legal and systematical aspects will be weak and emotional function will be strengthened. It means that intimacy among family members will be the important elements of family members.
      It is necessary to consider the issues raised above in order that Catholic Church's teachings about family persuade the moderns. Both Catholic Church's teachings and Feminists' problem raising leave room for discussion in the future and church's appropriate respond is necessary to meet the needs of the times.
