The purpose of this study was to investigate peer conflicts in physical education(PE) classes of an elementary school. Especially, the investigation was focused on the issues of peer conflicts, coping strategies against their conflicts, and the resolution of the conflicts. Thirty eight children (male 20, female 18) of 6th grade in a public elementary school in Seoul, Korea served as subjects. Their activities related to their conflicts during PE classes were collected for 4 months. All contents related to peer conflicts were documented and analyzed using taxonomic analysis including non-participant observation, in-depth interviews and video tape recordings. Results revealed that 1) the issues of peer conflicts in PE classes of elementary school were the possession of resources, game selection, team division, role allocation, rule application, the difference in game capability, and the attitude of participation in classes; 2) the coping strategies used were coercion, compromise, depending on authority, neglect, compliance, and persuasion; and 3) the resolutions were fair, unfair, authentic, and unauthentic resolutions. Suggestions and implications for future studies were discussed.
