This study is a preliminary review for the study of elite association rolls in Sacheon(Sasang) district of Dongraeboo in the late Joseon dynasty.
This study tried to know when elite association rolls were written and then tried to solve the questions about the result. In this process, This study found out follows.
Immediately after the end of invasion of Japan, district elites established an association for friendship and mutual assistance in Sacheon district of Dongraeboo. And the other association was established by the chief officer of Dongraepoo according to dynasty’s policy and replaced the former association in 1678. And another was established in 1753 and insisted it had the legitimacy of the former association established immediately after the end of invasion of Japan. Finally the association merged with the other and made one in 1872.
The association, established by the chief officer of Dongraeboo in 1678, had tendency to emphasize the privilege of the members and the difference of social position, while the association, established in 1753, did not have this tendency.
At last these two associations were merged into one in 1872. This unified association had not tendency to emphasize the privilege of the members and the difference of social position and it was more opened to new members.
