음악교육대학원생들의 진학동기 및 진로선택에 관한 연구 : 교육대학원 경험을 중심으로

This study is designed to find out what caused the students majoring in the music education at graduate schools of education to study this field and what they want to do after graduation as well as what kinds of experiences at the graduate school of education affected their career choice. For this study, the questionnaires were distributed to 110 students studying at 3 graduate schools of education located in Seoul and the collected data was used for the frequency analysis and cross analysis depending on the study issues. Among the free descriptive questions and the in-depth interview data were categorized into the topics by summarizing the responses in the words or sentences. results of the study are summarized as follows.
First, responding to the question of the motive for entering the graduate school of education, the students of music education answered the most with “to become teachers”. They also answered that the persons who affected them the most in terms of “my personality and interest” were themselves. In addition, in the in-depth interview, external motives such as 'recommendations of others' and 'job stability', as well as 'one's aptitude and interest' at the time of admission to the graduate school of education, In this way, it was confirmed that music education graduate students are the most interested in internal motivation such as their own aptitude and interest when they enter graduate school of education, while external motivation also influences decision to go to graduate school of education.
Second, it was found that as the future career, most students majoring in the music education want to become music teachers after they graduate from the graduate school of education. Even the students who did not hope to become music teachers when they applied for the graduate school of education, showed high hopes of becoming music teachers after their graduation. That shows that their experience at the graduate school of education has a big effect on their selection of music teachers as their future job.
Third, it was revealed that the education experience of graduate school of music education which had the most influence on career choice of graduate students was the major 'teaching method and instruction class'. The relationship with colleagues, who had an influence on career choice, was found to have a greater effect on the relationship with colleagues than on the relationship with professors. It was shown that with peers, they are influenced by 'the relationship between the peers with the same major', and with professors, they are influenced by 'the relationship within the class'. In addition, through in-depth interviews, it was found that graduate students of music education wanted counseling with professors and practical help for their career choices. Through these results, it was found out to be prerequisite to encourage career counseling and counseling outside class for students' career choices.
Fourth, it was also found that the students majoring in the music education wanted more support related to the information on recruitment of teachers from the graduate school of education. In addition, it was found that they want more practical experiences which would be good for their being teachers such as ‘more practical experience’, and ‘lecture made by actual teachers’. This shows that it is necessary to balance the curriculum appropriate to the purpose of the graduate school with practical educational experience opportunities to reflect the needs of students at the graduate school.
This study was designed to prove that the various experiences at the graduate school of education make a big effect on the future career for the students majoring in music education. This found out that most of the students majoring in music education wanted more experiences at the graduate school of education, which would be more helpful for their becoming music teachers, which was found to be their favorite career after graduation. It is expected that this study would make a positive effect on the making of the environment where the students can get more practical experience in education at the graduate school of education as well as on their favorite future career.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 교육대학원 음악교육전공생들의 교육대학원 진학동기와 졸업 후 희망진로를 알아보고, 진로선택에 영향을 미친 교육대학원 경험이 무엇인지 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 서울에 소재한 세 곳의 교육대학원의 재학생 110명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 심층면담을 통하여 연구의 내용을 보완하였다. 수집된 설문자료는 연구 문제에 따라 빈도분석과 교차분석을 실시하였으며, 설문지의 자유기술형 문항과 심층면담 자료는 응답을 나타나는 단어나 문장으로 정리하여 주제별로 범주화 하였다. 다음은 연구의 결과를 요약한 것이다.
첫째, 음악교육대학원생들의 교육대학원 진학동기로는 ‘교사가 되기 위하여’진학하였다는 응답이 가장 많이 나타났으며, 교육대학원에 진학할 당시‘나의 적성 및 흥미’를 가장 많이 고려하였고, 타인의 영향보다 ‘본인’의 의지로 진학하였다는 응답이 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 심층면담에서는 교육대학원 진학 당시 ‘자신의 적성 및 흥미’ 뿐만 아니라 ‘주변의 권유’, ‘직업의 안정성’과 같은 외적동기도 교육대학원에 진학을 결정하는데 영향을 미쳤다는 응답이 나타났다. 이를 통하여 음악교육대학원생들이 교육대학원에 진학할 때 자신의 적성이나 흥미와 같은 내적동기를 가장 많이 고려하지만 외적동기 또한 교육대학원 진학을 결정하는데 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
둘째, 음악교육대학원생들은 교육대학원 졸업 후 희망진로로 ‘음악교사’를 희망한다는 응답이 가장 많이 나타났다. 교육대학원 진학당시 음악교사를 희망하지 않았던 재학생들 중 상당수가 교육대학원 진학 이후 음악교사를 희망하게 되었다는 응답이 높게 나타난 것으로 보아 교육대학원에서의 경험이 ‘음악교사’라는 직업을 선택하는데 많은 영향을 미치고 있다는 것을 유추해 볼 수 있다.
셋째, 음악교육대학원생들의 진로선택에 가장 많은 영향을 미친 교육대학원의 교육경험은 전공과목인 ‘교수법 및 지도법 수업’으로 나타났다. 진로선택에 영향을 미친 교수 및 동료와의 관계에서는 동료와의 관계가 교수와의 관계보다 더 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 동료와는 ‘같은 전공 동료와의 관계’, 교수와는 ‘수업 내의 관계’에서 영향을 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 심층면담을 통해 음악교육대학원생들은 진로선택을 위해 교수와의 상담과 실질적인 도움을 원한다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 이러한 결과를 통해 재학생들의 진로선택을 위하여 교수와의 진로상담이나 수업 외의 면담이 장려되어야할 필요성이 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
넷째, 음악교육대학원생들은 교육대학원에서 ‘임용’과 관련된 보다 많은 지원을 원하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이뿐만 아니라 ‘더 많은 실습 경험’, ‘현장교사 특강’ 과 같은 음악교사가 되는 데에 실질적으로 도움이 되는 경험들을 더 원하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 교육대학원에서 학생들의 요구사항을 반영하여 교육대학원의 목적에 맞는 커리큘럼과 실질적인 교육경험 기회에 균형을 맞추어 프로그램을 제공해야 할 필요가 있다는 것을 보여준다.
본 연구는 교육대학원에서의 다양한 경험이 음악교육대학원생들의 진로선택에 영향을 미친다는 것을 입증하는 것으로, 음악교육대학원생 대부분이 교육대학원 졸업 후 희망하는‘음악교사’가 되기 위하여 실질적으로 도움이 되는 교육대학원에서의 경험을 더 원하고 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 교육대학원에서 재학생들이 보다 실질적인 교육경험 기회를 가질 수 있는 환경이 마련되어 그들이 희망하는 미래를 준비하는데 보다 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있기를 기대한다.
