This study is the empirical research to find out the determinant factors by which the interfamily income transfer is motivated in Korea, which has been critical in the field of income distribution in the sense that the family has been one of the important institution which has the strong function of economic support among families.
Followings are the results in detail, which are obtained by the procedure of multiple regression.
First, the parent group of the middle class can get the most sizable benefit from their children, followed by the group of the low class, the high class has the least. Second, the most important factors to affect the level of income transfer are the parent's need and children's economic capacity. Third, for the income transfer among families of low economic class, the factor of the children's economic capacity such as income, wealth is the most important factor. Fourth, for the families in middle economic class, the factor of parent's need is more important relative to others. The less the parent's income, the more the transfer of children. Fifth, for the families in high economic class, Factors for parent's resources such as parent's wealth, services by parents, educational investment for their children are not significant. In addition, the more the magnitude of gift by the parent to their children, the smaller the size of income transfer from children to their parents. The significant factors to affect the income transfer for the group in high economic class are the employment of their parent, domestic affairs such as the marriage or burial, income level of children, the gift by children to parent.
