공급사슬 유형과 재고관리 전략의 전략적 적합성 = Strategic fit between supply chain types and inventory management strategies

The increasing importance of Supply Chain Management necessitates research efforts to explain inventory strategy and its performance outcomes. Logistics has emerged as a subject of considerable interest -particularly in terms of strategic advantage of Supply Chain Management and that, as a result inventory strategy has received increased emphasis.
Little studies have been conducted on the inventory management strategy for Korean firms. The lack of general review of recent inventory management research is a handicap to the advancement of practice in inventory strategy. From the strategic fit point of view, we tried to find out new inventory management strategies and differences in financial performances.
Based on Payne and Peters(2004) inventory management concept, a new inventory management strategy classification scheme was developed, that is, central inventory strategy, dispersed inventory strategy, order inventory strategy, and managemental inventory strategy.
The data for this study were collected from 114 Korean firms. Results from an statistical analysis are as follows: three supply chain types appeared through cluster analysis. Three types are composed of (1) lean supply chain, (2) agile supply chain, and (3) leagile supply chain.
The results of this study shows that leagile supply chain is best fit for managemental inventory strategy and agile supply chain is fit for central inventory strategy but not for order inventory strategy. And this strategic fit is also strongly facilitate the Korean firms' financial performances. Meanwhile lean supply chain is not fit for dispersed inventory strategy.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 기업의 경영활동이 세계화되고 고객의 요구가 다양해짐에 따라, 기업들은 경쟁우위를 강화시키기 위한 하나의 전략적 수단으로 공급사슬관리에 관심을 기울이고 있다. 공급사슬관리의 여러 이슈 가운데에서도 재고관리 연구는 대단히 중요한 분야로 인식되어 왔지만, 공급사슬관리 문헌에서 기업의 재고전략에 관한 연구는 상당히 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공급사슬과 연계된 시각에서 Payne and Peters(2004)가 제시한 재고관리전략을 중심으로 관리재고라는 개념을 새로이 제시하여 수정된 재고전략모형을 개발하였다. 그 후 공급사슬 유형과 수정된 재고관리전략 간의 전략적 적합성이 기업의 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 살펴보았다.
공급사슬관리를 수행하는 144개의 제조기업을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 공급사슬 유형의 군집분석결과 (1)유연형공급사슬, (2)민첩형공급사슬, (3)간결형공급사슬의 세 개의 집단으로 분류되었다.
이들 공급사슬 유형과 수정된 재고전략 간의 전략적 적합성을 살펴본 결과, 관리재고전략-유연형공급사슬과 집중재고전략-민첩형공급사슬 간의 전략적 적합성이 높을수록 기업의 성과는 높은 것으로 나타났다.
