한말 성리학계의 心說 論辯과 그 道德(敎育)論的 含意 = The Debate on the Theories of Mind and its Moral (education) Implications in the Neo-Confucianism in the Late Joseon Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Main Concern of Neo-Confucian scholars in the late Joseon is the issue of how to understand the mind in terms of the li-qi framework. With fortifying the li-oriented interpretation of the mind in concert with the li-centered theories claimed by the leading scholars, the debate on the mind becomes the most controversial one in the Yongnam as well as the Ki-ho academia. Raising questions on the li-oriented theories of the mind by Hwaseo Yi hang-ro, on the one hand, many scholars of diverse schools including Kanjae Chon Woo took place into the debate on the mind in the Ki-ho academia. On the other hand, Hanju Yi Chin-sang provided with the theme “mind is principle”, which is distinguished from that of the Yangming school in the Yongnam academia. Within the academia, thus, many scholars take emotional reaction against each other.
In this paper, I will examine the general process of the debate on the mind in terms of the li-qi framework, which is the hottest issue, and then, inquire into the moral (education) implications of the debate by investigating the major issues. While current studies on the debate so far analyzed the structures of arguments proposed by major scholars or schools, my examination will illuminate the moral implications of the mind theories by reconstructing the significance of the debate.
