생성형 AI를 융합한 플레이백 씨어터의 실행연구: 중재된 즉흥성과 프롬프트 연출자의 등장 = Practice-Based Research on AI-Integrated Playback Theatre: Mediated Improvisation and the Prompt Director

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 생성형 AI를 활용하여 플레이백 씨어터의 표현적 한계를 극복하고 관객 경험을 확장할 수 있는 가능성을 실증적으로 탐구하였다. 플레이백 씨어터는 관객의 서사를 즉흥적으로 재현하는 연극 형식이나 시공간 표현에 구조적 한계를 지니고 있다. 본 연구는 AI 융합 플레이백 씨어터의 실행연구를 통해 ChatGPT-4, Stable Diffusion, SUNO AI 등 생성형 AI와 비주얼 처리 도구를 통합한 실시간 시스템을 구축하고 응용연극 기법을 AI와 융합하여 적용하였다. 연구 결과 AI는 추상적 서사를 시청각 콘텐츠로 변환하여 표현을 확장시켰으며 ‘중재된 즉흥성’을 통해 AI 콘텐츠와 즉흥 연기의 창조적 균형을 달성하였다. 특히 ‘프롬프트 연출자’라는 새로운 창작자 역할이 등장하여 AI와 인간 배우를 매개하는 핵심이 되었다. 그러나 네트워크 의존성, 시스템 통합의 복잡성, AI의 문화적 맥락 이해 부족 등의 한계도 확인되었다. 본 연구는 AI가 인간 창의성의 증폭제가 될 수 있음을 실증하였으며, AI 융합 플레이백 씨어터를 통해 인간과 기술이 함께 만들어가는 창조적 미래의 가능성을 제시한다.

This study empirically explores using generative AI to overcome Playback Theatre’s expressive limitations and expand audience experience. Playback Theatre spontaneously recreates audience narratives but has structural limitations in spatiotemporal expression. Through practice-based research, we built a real-time system integrating generative AI (ChatGPT-4, Stable Diffusion, SUNO AI) with visual processing tools, applying AI-integrated theatre techniques. Results showed AI expanded expression by transforming abstract narratives into audiovisual content, achieving a creative balance between AI content and improvisation through ‘mediated improvisation.’ The ‘prompt director’ emerged as a new creative role mediating between AI and human actors. However, limitations including network dependency, system complexity, and AI’s lack of cultural understanding were identified. This study demonstrates AI as an amplifier of human creativity, presenting AI-integrated Playback Theatre as a creative future co-created by humans and technology.
