진로선택과정에서 우연 혹은 기회의 역할 고찰 = The Role of Chance and Happenstance in the Process of Career Choice

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Chance or happenstance were regarded as a error source or one of the contextual factors in the career research. But most people experience that chance or happenstance affect their career choice and career directions. Currently, some researchers studied to the forgotten factors like chance, intuitions, and spiritualities. And they proposed to study the unreasonable factors in the process of career choice. It was caused from their awareness that there are too many uncontrollable and unpredictable events in life. So career counselors should counsel and encourage the clients to think, prepare and cope the planned events and unplanned events. This kind of view is named as an alternative models. In this research, the role and function of chance and happenstance in the process of career choice were studied and concepts of chance and happenstances were reviewed. Among the alternative model, the role of chance and happenstance were discussed from the perspectives of happenstance theory and chaos theory. Some recommendations for the career counselors and future researchers were suggested.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 그동안 진로 상담 이론 및 현장에서 주목받지 못하였던 우연 혹은 기회의 역할을 이론과 실제의 측면에서 고찰하였다. 합리적이고 이성적인 선택을 강조하는 전통적인 진로 상담 이론에서는 우연의 역할을 간과하거나, 일종의 과실로 간주하면서 진로선택과정에서 개인의 합리성을 강조하여 왔다. 하지만 진로선택과정에는 예측하기 힘들거나, 예측할 수 없는 수많은 변인(우연)들이 영향을 미치며, 우연은 기회로 변화되어서 활용되기도 한다. 개인이 진로와 관련된 모든 변인들을 통제할 수 없다는 인식은 보다 적극적으로 실천행동들을 준비하는 동기가 될 수도 있다. 본고에서는 대안 모델의 관점에서 진로선택과정에서 우연의 역할을 어떻게 조망해야 할지를 고찰하였다. 그리고 비록 소수이기는 하지만 우연의 영향을 다룬 연구들을 소개하고, 진로상담 실제 및 후속 연구자들에게 주는 시사점들을 고찰하였다.
