The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of the playful children. The subjects of this study were 446 5th and 6th graders (214 boys and 232 girls) selected from elementary schools in Seoul and Inchon. Participants in this study were asked to describe their own playful friends. And the collected data were analyzed by content analysis. Results of this study revealed that: (1) The playful children showed desirable development in physical, motor, characteristic, social, emotional, linguistic, and intellectual development, (2) The playful children had various interests of play activities and were highly humorous. (3) The playful children were perceived positively by peers.
