다문화 배경 학습자를 위한 기계 번역의 재현 양상 연구: 한국어 연결어미 ‘-더니’와 ‘-었더니’를 중심으로 = A Study on the Reproduction Patterns of Machine Translation for Multicultural Learners: Focusing on the Korean Connective Endings ‘-더니’ and ‘-었더니’

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 한국어 연결어미 ‘-더니’와 ‘-었더니’를 대상으로 주요 기계 번역 서비스(Papago, Google Translate, DeepL)의 번역 양상을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 세 번역기 모두 사건 간 기본적인 시간적･인과적 관계는 비교적 안정적으로 재현하였으나 화자의 경험적 시점과 인식 변화를 나타내는 화용적 의미는 충분히 전달하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 ‘-더니’가 지닌 회상적 관찰과 상태 변화 의미는 번역 과정에서 단순 시간 관계로 축소되는 경향이 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 다문화 배경 학습자가 기계 번역에만 의존할 경우, 화용적 의미 손실로 오해가 발생할 가능성을 시사한다. 그러므로 번역 결과를 비판적으로 해석할 수 있는 디지털 문식성 교육의 필요성을 강조하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzed the translation patterns of the Korean connective endings ‘-더니’ and ‘-었더니’ in major machine translation services (Papago, Google Translate, and DeepL). The analysis showed that all three translators reproduced the basic temporal and causal relationships between events relatively accurately, but they failed to fully convey the pragmatic meanings reflecting the speaker’s experiential perspective and perceptual shifts. In particular, the retrospective observation and state-change functions of ‘-더니’ tended to be reduced to simple temporal sequences during translation. These findings suggest that reliance solely on machine translation by multicultural learners may lead to misunderstandings due to the loss of pragmatic meaning, highlighting the need for digital literacy education that enables critical interpretation of translation outputs.
