      This study researched and analyzed physical characteristics of new materials in the aspect of visual effects by targeting new materials that can be applied to housing space, and the results are as follows. First, finishing materials are an important factor for making differentiated and emotional design as quality of resident’s life has improved, the recent trend of finishing materials for housing space is changing into innovative and emotional design. Second, materials giving visual effects are selected as continuity, pictorial attribute, and deformability through the precedent studies and physical characteristics of new materials are selected as new technology, new processing, complexity, innovation, and applicability by referring to the precedent studies. Third, an analysis standard for physical characteristics of new materials that considered visual effects was suggested based on the extracted items and contents. Fourth, ‘new processing’ and ‘complexity’ were mainly applied in physical characteristics of new materials, and this is resulting from a trend of actively using the related technology even in architecture and interior fields as digital media technologies develop and advance.
      The researcher will set and analyze detailed standard about characteristics of new materials for visual effects through additional research on new materials that can be applied to house spacing based on this study. These data are expected to be used as basic reference to apply new materials when designing differentiated and emotional housing space in future.
