아시아 지역주의와 미국 외교 = 아시아개발은행(ADB) 설립의 역사적 분석

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to reassess the development of Asia's regionalism during mid-1960's which was closely related to the U.S. regional strategy toward Asia. It gives a historical analysis of establishing the Asian Development Bank(ADB) as a case for revisiting the history of the cold war era. Previous empirical studies have underlined the importance of initiatives taken by regional powers for its founding. Other researches identified factors influencing its establishment only with regards to the U.S. cold war or the Vietnamese war strategy.
At the beginning, the plan for establishing the ADB had been independently proposed by regional powers without any U.S. intentions involved. The realization of its establishment, however, needed the U.S. support and participation. The U.S., at that time, had plans for constructing a multilateral cooperative system for the development of Southeast Asian region as a part of the Johnson Plan, and ADB seemed to be a good means to achieve this goal. The establishment of the ADB can be explained by the interplay between the U.S. policy toward Asia and initiatives taken by regional powers, and this dynamism was a distinctive feature of Asia's regionalism during the cold war period.
