한국사회 20세기 자살 통계에 대한 장기 추세 분석

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국사회에서 자살 통계는 일제에 의한 식민지 행정의 일환으로 조사된 이래 100년간의 역사 속에서 축적되어 왔지만 이에 대한 체계적인 분석과 연구는 매우 미비한 실정이다. 자살 통계 연구는 대부분 통계청의 자살 통계만 사용하고 있고 10년 혹은 20년 단위의 단기간의 변동만을 분석한 연구가 대부분이어서 전반적인 자살률의 역사적인 변동이나 장기적인 변화의 추세를 보여주는 연구가 거의 없다.
본 연구는 학문분과별로 단절적이고 파편화되어 진행되었던 자살 통계에 대한 기존 연구의 문제점을 체계적으로 검토하여 한국사회 백년간의 자살 통계에 대한 보다 객관적이 신뢰할만한 분석을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
본 연구는 식민지시기 『조선총독부통계연보』를 통해 1910년에서 1943년까지의 자살 통계를 분석하였고 『경찰통계연보』를 통해 1953년도부터 2010년까지의 자살 통계를 체계적으로 정리하였다. 본 연구는 경찰통계연보에서 수작업을 통해 발생한 자료의 오류를 수정하였고 한국사회 100년간의 자살 통계에 대한 장기적인 변화의 추세를 체계적으로 분석하였다. 연령별, 성별 자살자수와 자살률의 변화의 추세를 분석하고 자살의 원인과 수단의 분류 체계에 대해서도 전반적인 변화의 양상을 검토하였다. 이러한 분석의 결과를 도표와 그래프를 통해 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The suicide statistics have a history of one hundred years in Korea. However, there are rare systemic researches and analysis about the suicide statistics. As most of researchers have dealt statistics during a few dozen years, long-term trend of suicide statistics were not known.
This research aim to organize suicide statistics data systematically during one hundred years from 1910 to 2010 and analyze the long-term trend of them. This focuses on the police statistics because they were consistent in the way of collecting of data with colonial period.
This analyzed the suicide rate in terms of gender, age, suicide cause category and suicide method, and gave tables and graphs of them.
