구(舊) 유고권 현대 문화와 ‘유고-노스탤지어’ = Contemporary Culture in the ex-Yugoslav area and ‘Yugonostalgia’

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this research is to give an analysis of the new cultural phenomenon of "Yugonostalgia" with its multi-layered implications, which I expect could reveal both the current spiritual coordinates and prominent cultural features of the civil societies in ex-Yugoslav republics.
In this paper, I tried to give an analysis of the popular culture and cinema of today’s ex-Yugoslavia republics, and also tried to reveal the postmodern properties and the various implications of the discourses of "Yugonostalgia."The analysis of the Yugonostalgic discourses demonstrates that there does not exist one all-encompassing ideal, but the complex of heterogenous voices of different civil subjects, not one consistent and monolithic memory, but many selective and peculiar memories on its own account. Finally, the commercial and entertainment reappropriation of historical memory of former Yugoslavia itself implies the risk of simplification or misinterpretation of the socialist past.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 동유럽 사회주의 붕괴 후 발칸 반도 전역에서 광범위하게 대두되고 있는 새로운 문화적 현상인 ‘유고슬라비아 노스탤지어’의 다면적 의미를 분석하는 것이다.
돌아갈 수 없는 과거(구 유고연방)에 대한 인식과, 과거와 현재의 간극에 대한 저항이 모순적으로 공존하는 ‘유고-노스탤지어’의 문화적 구현은 인터넷 매체의 적극적 활용 외에도, 새로운 창조보다는 과거 유산의 재활용과 패스티쉬(pastiche)에 의존한다는 점에서 탈근대적 문화현상이라고 볼 수 있다.
또한 과거 유고연방 시절의 역사에 대한 반성의 형태로서 ‘유고-노스탤지어’를 확산시키는 역할을 한 대중 영화는 과거에 대한 단순한 회고로부터 사회주의 시절에 대한 긍정적 부정적 평가, 심지어는 ‘유고-노스탤지어’ 담론 자체에 대한 메타비평에 이르기까지 다양한 모습을 보인다.
‘유고-노스탤지어’의 의미는 구 유고연방의 과거 역사와 그 비극적 종말의 의미를 현재적 맥락에서 반성적으로 재구성한다는 점에 있다. 동시에 구 유고연방의 역사에 대한 상업적, 오락적 전유는 구 유고연방의 해체와 내전의 원인 등 중요한 정치적, 역사적 실제를 단순화하거나 왜곡할 가능성, 역사적 아포리아를 규명하기 보다는 모호하게 하는 위험성을 안고 있다.
