The purpose of this study is to find answers to the questions Through what process has ``climats`` used in the hierarchy of Bourgogne wine settled as one of important traits of Bourgogne wine today?, Why does Bourgogne place importance on climats wines?, How is the hierarchy of Bourgogne wine structured based on climats?, Why does Bourgogne keep using so complicated names of climats on the wine labels that even the wine experts do not know exactly? and Why is Bourgogne wine recognized as one of the most prestigious wines in the world market? The climats used in the names of Bourgogne wines originated from the same names of the places of vineyard (parcelle) since the Middle Ages. That is, it refers to a specific place in the form of mosaic which has geographical, geological and climatic traits. Names of climats passed down from the past derived from the specific microtoponymies on the hills of Bourgogne. It is noteworthy that vineyard techniques of regions other than Bourgogne do not have the term ``climats`` and the term ``climats`` is only used in premium wines of Bourgogne. In other words, unlike Bordeaux region which places importance on marquee or brand and Alsace region which places importance on cepage or variety of grapes, Bourgogne established the standards for premium wines based on climats. Today there are 630 climats classified as 1st class in Bourgogne, and included in a total of 693 climats classified in Bourgogne``s AOC rules are 32 Grands Crus climats and Corton and Chablis climats. Although it is difficult to understand Bourgogne wines as there are so many numbers of climats labeled on the Bourgogne wines, it can be also said that the uniqueness of Bourgogne wines is based on the originalities of so many cimats. In addition, it should be noted that climats wines with special names have not become famous as the result of marketing or advertising effect. In order to better understand the wine and traits presented by the wine, Bourgogne has tried to investigate the uniqueness of climats in the first place. In fact, there are few places in the world as the product origins which are so segmented and specified as the climats names of Bourgogne. Climats wines of Bourgogne mark the place name actually producing the products and do not allow any mixture with wines from other regions. Therefore, diversity of Bourgogne wines is based on the variety of climats, which is the very competitiveness and brand of Bourgogne wines.
