This study aims to analyze the changing longitudinal pattern of multicultural perception and to test the predicting variables of the multicultural acceptance of young people. The data used in this study come from “Korean Child and Youth Panel Study(KCYPS)” of National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI) and the 2,280 responses from freshman of middle school students from the three years longitudinal surveys including the youth panel group of 2nd year through 4th year. The analysis was implemented by using Latent Grouth Model.
According to the research results, several findings can be summarized as follows: First, the rate of multicultural perception was decreased from 2nd grade of middle school to 1st grade of high school as the panel participants grow by time passing of getting old. The extent of decreasing tentency was greater at the time of becoming 3rd grade from 2nd grade. Second, peer relationship, teacher relationship, community relation, and community consciousness were significant for the predicing variables of the changing multicultural perpection. The changing rate was significant in the variables of community relation and community consciousness.
Based on these study results, several suggestions for the improvement of multicultural perception among young people were provided including the development and application of various programs to increase multicultural perception and the emphasis on the multicultural education during school years of young people.
