1960년대 가톨릭 학생운동 - 교회일치운동을 중심으로 - = The ecumenical movement of Korean Catholic students in the 1960s

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 1960년대 대한가톨릭학생회총연합회를 비롯한 가톨릭학생회의 활동을 교회일치운동에 초점을 맞춰서 살펴보았다. 가톨릭학생회는 학생의 사회적 소임인 교육과 봉사 활동을 통해 친교를 도모하며점차 조직이 성장해 갔으며, 교회일치운동을 통해서 방향성이 폭넓어졌다. 1960년대 한국의 대학생은 엘리트 집단으로서의 자의식이 있었고, 전위적 성격이 강했다. 독재 정권에 대항하여 대학가의 독자적 운동 세력이 형성되어가던 시기에 가톨릭 학생들 역시 대학가의 일원이었으나, 가톨릭학생회의 지도신부와 학생이라는 이중적 구조는 이들의 활동에오히려 제약을 가하게 되는 원인을 제공하였다. 시대의 흐름에 맞춰 사회 참여적 활동을 하고자 이 연구는 1960년대 대한가톨릭학생회총연합회를 비롯한 가톨릭학생회 했던 학생들과 교회 안에서의 활동으로 국한시키고자 하는 지도부가 충돌할 수밖에 없었던 것이다. 이는 결국1972년의 조직의 해체로 이어졌다. 해체 이후에도 일부 학생들은 사회운동을 위한 에큐메니컬 연합조직 등에 참여하며 활동을 이어갔으나, 전체 가톨릭학생회의 운동은 오히려 일시적 침체기에 접어들게 되었다.

This study examines the activities of Catholic student organisations, including the Korean Catholic Student Association(KCSA) in the 1960s, with a focus on the ecumenical movement.
KCSA gradually grew as organisation that promoted communion through education and service activities, which are the social duties of students, and broadened their orientation through the ecumenical movement.
In the 1960s, university students in Korea were self-conscious as an elite group and had a strong avant-garde character. Catholic students were also part of the university community at a time when student movements were forming on campus against the dictatorship, but the dual structure of the KCSA, which was comprised of Priests and students, restricted their activities. The students’ desire to engage in socially engaged activities in line with the times clashed with the leadership’s desire to confine their activities to the church. This eventually led to the dissolution of the organisation in 1972. After the dissolution, some students remained active, participating in ecumenical alliances for social activism, but the Catholic student movement as a whole entered a period of temporary stagnation.
