A.N. Whitehead의 교육철학에 나타난영성이 유아교육과정에 주는 함의 = Implications of Spirituality in A. N. Whitehead's Educational Philosophy for Early Childhood Curriculum

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper investigated spirituality in the process philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, who was a British mathematician, logician and philosopher best known for his work in mathematical logic and the philosophy of science. One of the well-known works of Whitehead, The Aims of Education contains his educational philosophy. The authors found out an idea from the phrase in the book: The essence of education is religious. The term ‘religious’ in his book does not mean the nature of religion in established religion but secular spirituality. In other words, the religious and spirituality are interchangeable. Although the concept of spirituality is hard to understand, The definition of spirituality is often mentioned as the intellectual whole followed by emotion, physical experience, inquiry into the unknown in aesthetic experience, the possibility of knowing transcending direct perceptions. Based on the definition, this article concluded how spirituality in Whitehead's philosophy is related to holistic early childhood curriculum.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 유기체 철학자 또는 과정철학자로 일컫는 A. N. Whitehead의 교육철학에 나타난 영성이 유아교육과정에 주는 함의를 논의하였다. Whitehead는 여러 권의 책을 출판했지만 그의 교육철학이 분명히 나타난 책은『교육의 목적(The Aims of Education)』이라고 할 수 있다. 이 책에서 연구자들은 Whitehead의 “교육의 본질은 종교적이다.”라는 명제에서 착안하여 교육의 종교성에 대해 논의하였다. 여기서 말하는 종교성은 기성 종교에서 말하는 의미가 아니라 세속적인 의미의 종교성을 의미하기 때문에, 종교성이라는 개념을 좀 더 포괄적인 개념인 영성(spirituality)의 개념으로 대치하였다. 영성이라는 개념은 정의하기가 어려운 개념임에도 불구하고 정서, 물리적 경험, 심미적 경험에서의 미지적인(unknown) 것에 대한 탐구와 직접적으로 지각되는 것을 초월한 앎의 가능성에 대한 음미를 수반하는 지성의 총화라는 말로 요약할 수 있다. 이러한 개념에 입각하여 Whitehead의 교육철학은 홀리스틱 교육철학과 일맥상통하고 있다. 따라서 이러한 개념에 입각하여 Whitehead의 홀리스틱 교육철학에 나타난 영성이 유아교육과정에 주는 함의를 논의하였다.
