한국 사회의 혈연주의와 한국 개신교의 세습 = Nepotism in Korean Society and the Hereditary Power Succession of the Korean Protestant Church

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Dealing with phenomena of nepotism in Korean society through the frame of kinship ideology which has dominated the Korean history from a historical perspective, this research paper argues that nepotism which has been deeply embedded in Korean people’s consciousness has emerged in reinforced ways with the socio-economic changes such as slowing economic growth and labor market duality for the past twenty years in the Korean society. The reinforced nepotism in the Korean society has produced unfairness and discrimination by the acquisition of privilege and maintenance of that by hereditary succession. The pursuit of the vision of the Kingdom of God in the story of Jesus’ true family in the New Testament reveals that Christianity should be tense relation with nepotism and go beyond it. The real-life of the Korean Protestant Church, however, is deeply influenced by nepotism through the hereditary power succession of the church and the appearance of sectarianism. The hereditary power succession of churches, which has occurred routinely in Korean Protestant churches over the past 20 years, is a linked phenomenon of nepotism and materialism in the Korean society. As a conclusion, the paper addresses that an important role that Christianity, a new religion in the Korean history, can play in the historical development of Korean society lies in overcoming nepotism.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 역사적 시각에서 친족 이데올로기를 통해 혈연주의를 조명하여, 한국인의 의식에 깊이 잠재되어 온 혈연주의가 지난 20년간 경제성장의 둔화, 노동시장의 이중구조화와 같은 사회경제적 변화와 결합하여 한국 사회에서두드러지게 나타나고 있음을 말한다. 한국 사회에서 혈연주의의 문제는 가족의 결속에 의한 특권 획득과 유지를 통해 불공정과 차별을 낳는다는 점이다.
신약성서의 예수의 진정한 가족에 관한 이야기 속의 하나님 나라의 이상에 대한 추구는 기독교가 혈연주의와 본질적으로 긴장 관계에 있음과 그것을 초월해야 함을 보여준다. 그러나 현실의 한국 개신교회는 교회 세습과 교파주의의모습을 통해 혈연주의에 깊게 영향 받고 있으며, 복음의 정신을 상실하고 있다. 교회 세습은 한국 사회의 혈연주의와 물질과 권력지향화의 결합현상이며한국사회의 생존 경쟁의 심화를 반영한다. 한국 역사에서 신생 종교인 기독교가 한국 역사의 발전에 기여할 수 있는 중요한 역할은 혈연주의의 극복에 있다.
