Contrasting Analysis of Text Structures and Dialogue Methods of Disaster-Related Remarks in Address to the Nation: Focused on the Remarks of the President of the Republic of Korea and the Federal Chancellor of Germany. Texlinguistics 53. In this study I analysed the remarks of some Korean presidents as well as the German federal chancellor in addresses made to the nation when giving public announcements related to national disasters from a textual linguistic point of view. In particular I focused on the theme development structure, positioning methods and other speech acts. Through this, it was possible to confirm what kind of person the people in power wanted to show themselves as being to the public in the face of a disastrous situation. Depending on their political intentions, they either presented themselves as being judges criticizing the corruption of public officials, or, on the contrary, positioned themselves as people who trusted civil servants. In addition, there were differences between each person in power in the speech act used that suggested a solution to the situation. The significance of this study can be found in that it tried to take an empirical and multifaceted approach to the ‘language here and now’.
