This study aims to solve the quality problem of communication outage identified after performing a wet test. Based on an analysis performed using the OTDR method and an image of an optical connector section, the cause of the problem is attributed to impurities penetrating the A/B-spool optical connector during the wet test, which adhere to the contacting surface as they dry. Therefore, an improved method for applying an index-matching gel to the contact surface is derived to prevent the penetration of impurities.
The result of repeated flooding tests show a failure rate of 12.5% in a sample without any improvement measures, whereas no single failure is identified in a sample with improvement measures, thereby proving the effectiveness of the improvement measure. Furthermore, by analyzing the components of the adhered impurities, the cause is confirmed to be the adherence of salt to the core of the optic fiber cable.
