The formation of spinel and coloring in the system CdO-ZnO-Fe_2O_3-TiO_2-SnO_2 were studied inorder to develop ceramic stains stable at high temperature. CdO as a colorant was substisuted for ZnO-Fe_2O_3, ZnO-TiO_2 and ZnO-SnO_2 system. Specimens were prepared by mixing XCdO(1-x)ZnO-FE_2O_3 XCdO(1-x)ZnO-TiO_2 and XCdO(1-x)ZnO-SnO_2 (x=0.2, 0.4 0.6, 0.8) in appropriate ration and firing at 1300℃ for 30 min. The phase formation and coloring were investigated using X-ray diffraction and reflectance spectral respectively. Spinel was found to form in all three systems. Color changed from thin brown to redish dark brown with increasing amounts of CdO and Fe_2O_3.
