일본 사회의 내셔널리즘과 트랜스내셔널리즘의 기회구조 = 일본군 위안부 문제를 중심으로

In Japan, there is a coexisting social atmosphere of introspection toward the past and respect toward democratic values. However, why is the Japanese society unilaterally recognized to have a conservative swing? By using the framework of opportunity structure of discourse, this study explores on how nationalism is institutionalized and transnationalism is marginalized with focus on Japanese military comfort women issue. With the severance of past affairs due to generational shift, political domination of the conservative right-wing party and the increase of media discourse for historical revisionism have strengthen the public sentiment to reject historical responsibility. Meanwhile, the transnational discourse which has emerged with the Democratic Party’s power shift has been marginalized due to low interest of the media and few supporting political groups. As for the time being, the rise of trans-nationalism in Japan is hard to expect as long as Japan is governed by the conservative right party without any counter balance.
