As the automotive industry rapidly shifts from a hardware-centric paradigm to software-defined vehicle (SDV), vehicles are transforming beyond means of transportation into continuously evolving digital platforms and “second living spaces.” During the transitional period in which drivers’ physical intervention decreases due to advances in autonomous driving technology, it becomes necessary to redefine the driver–vehicle relationship not merely as one of functional control but as an emotional bond characterized by attachment. Accordingly, this study aims to propose concrete AI-driven UX solutions that can foster sustainable attachment by leveraging AI technologies capable of recognizing driver context and engaging in proactive communication within the SDV environment.
To this end, this study first reviews the attachment-formation factors of general consumer products through a literature review and based on these findings, identifies driver–vehicle attachment types that reflect the unique characteristics of automobiles. Building on this framework, five personas that represent drivers’ dispositions and attachment drivers (Essentialist, Time Capsule, Babysitter, SnailHouse, and Maximal Custom) were derived. Through keyword-card interviews, the latent needs and opportunity areas of each type were empirically collected and analyzed.
Based on the derived directions, this study proposes five AI UX solutions that leverage interaction modalities within SDVs. First, proactive personalized space orchestration based on a 10-second preview. Second, context-based vehicle maintenance forecasting and performance receipts. Third, the formation of reciprocal relationships through the provision of Bond Credits. Fourth, the exploration of memories and experiences through a Memory Dial and Growth Lens. Fifth, the creation of a vehicle persona based on Style Tokens.
This study holds academic and practical significance in that it systematizes the abstract concept of attachment into a vehicle-domain-specific framework and translates it into concrete, implementable AI UX solutions for real-world SDV environments. The proposed solutions may serve as a core strategy for creating emotional value that is difficult for competitors to imitate and for securing strong brand loyalty in a future mobility market where technological commoditization accelerates
