In the United States, after-school activities for children began early in the 1870s. After-school programs draw positive results to all children. The programs benefit a lot more to special needs children than for their non-disabled peers. The programs are now focusing on healthy development of all children including the special needs and low-income children. The 21st-Century Community Learning Centers programs of the United States are the nation's driving forces of after-school programs. All children benefit more than ever expected from the after-school activities. Considering the positive outcomes of after-school programs proven in the United States, it is time for us to start the program in Korea.
