나는 어떻게 지금의 내가 되었나?: 이머징 성인의 정체성

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정체성 형성에 있어서 가장 중요한 시기는 청소년기가 아니라 이머징 성인기라는 인식이 대두되면서 이 시기에 해당하는 사람들을 대상으로 한 정체성 연구의 필요성이 부상하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 시대적 흐름과 학문적 필요성에 입각하여 이머징 성인에 해당하는 사람을 대상으로 정체성이 어떻게 형성되어 가고 있는지를 질적으로 탐구하고자 했다. 본 연구가 질적 연구 방법을 사용한다는 특성과 정체성은 개인의 고유성이 드러날수록 학문적 가치가 담보된다는 지적에 따라 두 명의 이머징 성인을 대상으로 연구를 수행하고 있다. 교육혁신활동가로 살아가고 있는 대학생과 고등학교를 졸업한 후 곧바로 취직하고 현장에서 오픈되는 교육 프로그램과 연수를 통해 배움의 길을 놓지 않고 있는 청년을 면담하고 있다. 질적 연구의 특성 상 연구 일정이 길어지고는 있지만 단기간에 속성으로 이루어진 질적 연구보다는 시간이 좀 걸리더라도 내실 있는 자료 수집과 분석이 이루어진 질적 연구가 필요하기 때문에 연구기간이 종료된 후에도 연구는 지속되고 있다. 연구 참여자가 이머징 성인이기 때문에 확고한 정체성을 수립한다는 것은 어려운 일이다. 그렇기 때문에 본 연구는 이들이 현재까지 수립한 정체성의 모습과 그러한 정체성 형성에 기여한 심리정서적 변인과 사회문화적 맥락을 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로한 정체성 트러젝토리를 분석하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Researchers argued that the most important and available time to form identity is emerging adulthood. Following these arguments, there are many types of research presenting emerging adults' identity formation process. This study examined the Korean emerging adults' identity formation process using a qualitative method. For this study, two emerging adults were recruited. Both participants were involved in a certain kind of education reform activist group. One is a group leader, and the other is a chief staff. These two participant's life trajectories were somewhat different and these difference lead them to have different identity formation process. In case of a group leader, he was very confident in his decision in terms of his role as a group leader and this made him behave like a solid identity figure. However it was hard to make it clear whether his solid identity made him education activist or his action made him have a solid identity. Another participant stood on opposite side from the former participant. He is looking for various education programs outside of normal education system. His eager for learning and growing made him move forward to get various experience from education field. He was very confident in his decision in many ways, but he is kind of wondering to find
