경찰학의 학문성과 교과과정에 관한 연구: 전공명칭과 교과과정 분석을 중심으로 = A Study on Identity and Academic Curriculums of Police Science at University

The police science at Korean universities is pursuing a development from the “Police Administration” to “Police Science” like the United States. When police related majors became established 50 years went by, it is another approach to the identifying of the police science in terms of identifying the reality of police related subjects. This study analyzed 2016 Year Freshman Admissions to the major names and the curriculum of the 66 departments of 62 universities. The results are as follows. Although major names of the department is “Police Administration” accounted for the absolute majority(71.4%), names of school was compatable to the 46.7% respectively, “Police Science” and “Police Administration”. In addition, when based on the year of establishment of department, which departments established before 1997 was choice “Police Administration” by overwhelming 90.9%. But 22.5% of departments established in 1998-2006 and 26.7% of departments established since 2008 adopt the name of “Police Science”, it was confirmed that “Police Science” was increasingly favored by major name. Subjects of law was greater proportion in the department which include the ‘Law’ in the name. And opening the police theory courses at the department of police administration and police science is relatively common. It proposes measures to ensure identity of police science based on the analysis results as follows: ① Major name improvements in the academic identity reflected, ② The introduction of the standard curriculum, ③ Strengthening consumer-oriented education services.
