This article explores identity of Georgian religious culture focused on Georgian Islam. The main concept of this paper is to review the Georgian Islam through the historical origin and the Post-soviet general surroundings in Georgia. This paper traces the history or the relations between the Islam and the Christianity. I concentrated Georgia’s national identity by investigating the historical Islam and its impact on Georgia. In this paper, I traced the Islamic factor on the Georgia’s history. Muslim in Georgia, whatever their ethnic or confessional background, do not recognize themselves in the nation’s new definition, as promoted by the state. In general, Islam is considered as a traditional religion in and most of the time all religious communities live together in good harmony. Islam in Georgia is spread both among a part of ethnic Georgians and the representatives of national minorities.
Chapter Ⅱ overview Georgian religious culture, above all Georgian Orthodox historical dynamics and the meaning. Chapter Ⅲ analyzes historical identity of Islam and Muslim peoples in Georgian autonomous republics. The aim of this article is to present identity in Georgian’s religious recognition toward the Islam’s historical process in Georgia. This article mainly deals with the significance, the role of Islam’s historic and present position.
