남녀 청소년의 학업중단 사유 : 언어 네트워크 분석을 중심으로 = An Analysis of Reasons for School Dropouts of Male and Female Adolescents With Semantic Network Analysis

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the reasons behind school dropouts.
Design/methodology/data/approach: The reasons for school dropouts were investigated with free-response type questionnaire targeting school dropout adolescents across the country.
Findings/Results: The results of the study are as follows. First, the main reason for both male and female adolescents spanned all areas of academic, personal/social, and career development. Second, the reasons for school dropouts were divided into career development and personal/social development. Third, responses of both male and female adolescents about school violence and health problems were classified into same group. Fourth, family problem was the major reason for school dropouts in both groups. Fifth, there was also a difference according to gender. The primary reason for school dropouts of male adolescents was ‘school maladjustment’, while ‘psychological difficulty’ was the keyword with high centrality in female adolescents.
Value: Three implications deduced by this study were: 1) It is necessary to support youth career exploration and provide a flexible school curriculum. 2) It is important to establish a cooperative and comprehensive support system. 3) It is significant to provide support considering the psychological characteristics of individual students.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 학업중단 청소년들의 학업중단 사유를 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 전국에 있는 학업중단 청소년들을 대상으로 학업중단 사유를 자유기술식 문항으로 조사하였고, 언어 네트워크 분석을 실시하여 남녀 청소년 총 799명의 응답에서 주요 학업중단 사유를 확인하고 그 구조를 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남녀 청소년 모두 핵심적인 사유는 학업, 개인/사회, 진로발달의 전 영역에 걸쳐있고, 둘째, 크게는 진로발달과 개인/사회발달 영역으로 구분되었다. 셋째, 남녀 청소년 모두 학교폭력과 건강문제가 한 군집으로 분류되었고, 넷째, 가정문제 역시 주요 학업중단 사유라는 공통점이 있었다. 다섯째, 성별에 따른 차이도 나타났는데, ‘학교부적응’이 학업중단의 가장 주요한 사유인 남자 청소년과 달리 여자 청소년의 경우 ‘심리적 어려움’이 중심성이 높은 핵심어로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 1) 청소년의 진로 탐색 지원 및 학교교육과정 유연화, 2) 협력적이고 종합적인 지원체제 구축, 3) 개별 학생의 심리적 특성을 고려한 지원이 필요함을 논의하였다.
