Trade practice is a challenging field that involves extensive documentation, such as invoices and bills of lading, and must constantly consider various factors, such as national and regional regulations, tariffs, and exchange rate risks. Moreover, exchanges with overseas partners face time differences and language barriers, requiring considerable effort just to respond to daily emails and phone calls. In recent years, in addition to the increase in trade volume, the number of tasks that must be addressed has increased, including strengthening regulations in each country and establishing environmentally friendly logistics systems. In this context, a new technology called generative AI is attracting attention as a powerful means of practical innovation. Automation of customs clearance documentation using AI technology is contributing to increased efficiency in customs administration and shortening clearance times. AI is being used in various fields, such as automatic classification of import/export declarations and AI recognition of Certificates of Origin (C/O). The introduction of such AI technologies can significantly improve the efficiency of import and export operations by promoting the automation and simplification of customs clearance procedures. This study analyzes the challenges of customs clearance documents and customs clearance operations, addresses the challenges of customs procedures utilizing AI, examines cases of its introduction, and analyzes countermeasures for introducing AI into customs clearance documents. This study is different from previous studies in that it examines the challenges of customs clearance documents and customs clearance work, the solutions and introduction cases of customs clearance procedures using AI, and suggests countermeasures when introducing AI to customs clearance document work.
