쌍둥이의 말더듬 일치율에 관한 연구 = Concordance for stuttering in twins

Twin studies have been conducted to demonstrate genetic as well as environmental influences on stuttering. The purpose of this study was to investigate the concordance rate for twins in children and adolescents who stutter. Participants were 14 twin pairs who stutter(6 monozygotic and 8 dizygotic). Their family history of stuttering, age at onset, stuttering severity, concomitant language disorders as well as whether their twin pair also showed stuttering were investigated. Results revealed that the concordance rate in identical twin pairs was 50% whereas that of nonidentical twins was 25%. The difference, however, was not statistically significant. More than one third of participants reported family history of stuttering. There were individual variabilities in stuttering severity, age at onset, and concomitant language disorders. The results support considerable influences of genes as well as environments on stuttering because not all stuttering participants reported family history and some dizygotic twin pairs also showed stuttering concordance.
