Three phases of regional metamorphism are overprinted in the southwestern region (Gurye-Gogseong-Namwon) of the Sobaegsan Massif. According to mineral paragenesis and microscopic textures, these multiple metamorphism are retrogressive from upper amphibolite facies to amphibolite facies, and then to epidote-amphibolite facies with partial greenschist facies.
The typical mineral assemblages of the three of metamorphism are as follows:
first: biotite-sillimanite-K-feldspar-garnet-cordierite-quartz(-plagioclase)
second: biotite-sillimanite-garnet-muscovite(-cordierite)-quartz
biotite-hornblende-garnet-plagioclase(oligoclase)-quartz
third: biotite-sillimanite-muscovite-chlorite-quartz
muscovite-chlorite-plagioclase(sodic oligoclase-albite)-quartz
